Many people may be unaware that Physiotherapy can help with pelvic floor issues such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic pain. Media messaging suggests leaking is normal after a baby, this is not the case! Leaking may be common but it is not normal and women’s health physiotherapists can help. So, if your putting up with not being able to chase your toddler or jump on a trampoline, get in touch.
At Catriona Monkhouse Physiotherapy and Pilates we combine our experience in musculoskeletal and women’s health physiotherapy to provide the best outcomes for our clients. Having experience in these two areas allows us to safely guide women back to their favourite sports following a baby and address any other aches and pains at the same time.
Some of the women’s health services offered are listed below:
Treatment and rehabilitation for pain such as pelvic girdle pain and lower back pain in pregnancy.
Tailored advice to keeping active in pregnancy, exercising safely and personalised exercise programmes.

Post Natal Physiotherapy

Return to exercise advice and programmes, such as return to running or weight lifting safely.
Pelvic Floor Assessment and Treatment
Physiotherapy can help with pelvic floor issues such as urinary incontinence; this is not something that you just have to live with. In order to assess the pelvic floor an internal examination is performed as the pelvic floor muscles can be felt just inside the vagina to assess for strength and tone. This is done in a private and safe environment by a female Physiotherapist. We need your signed consent for this assessment and you are welcome to bring a chaperone with you if you are more comfortable. Following the assessment a bespoke treatment plan will be created for you.
Women’s Health Acupuncture
Acupuncture in pregnancy, acupuncture for menopause and peri-menopause symptom, acupuncture for stress relief.
