ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is used to enhance the bodies ability to heal by releasing the body’s natural painkillers -endorphins, as well as serotonin which promotes well-being and melatonin which promotes sleep. Acupuncture is used in conjunction with other Physiotherapy treatments such as manual techniques and exercise prescription to give the best outcomes.

The aim of acupuncture is to restore balance to the body. In the modern world so many of us live in a state of stress meaning our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) is over-active and we need to balance this by promoting relaxation to allow our parasympathetic nervous system to promote rest and digestion. Acupuncture can be used in this way to help with stress and anxiety, as well as addressing digestive issues.

Acupuncture is safe and you will be assessed and screened for any contraindications prior to treatment. I am trained in Western Medical Acupuncture and am a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).

Some conditions that acupuncture can be used to treat are listed below:

​

  • Musculoskeletal pain: neck pain, back pain, knee osteoarthritis, shoulder pain

  • Migraines and headaches

  • Irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive issues

  • Pelvic girdle and lower back pain in pregnancy.

  • Menopause symptoms such as hot flashes.

  • Stress and Anxiety
